Kootenai County food bank needs turkeys

The Community Action Partnership — Kootenai County’s food bank — put out an urgent call this morning for turkeys. CAP has coordinated a Thanksgiving meal program for 15 years, and last year gave out 2,617 baskets. This year, the nonprofit anticipates 3,500 families needing baskets. It began the distribution Monday with only 233 turkeys, and those are gone, a spokeswoman said. CAP asks that anyone who can help, by providing either turkeys, other Thanksgiving meal staples such as stuffing, gravy packets, vegetables, pumpkin, etc., or cash, drop off donations at participating grocery stores in Kootenai County or at CAP’s headquarters, 4144 W. Industrial Loop. Call (208) 664-8757 for information.
