Suspended Mississippi football coach Houston Nutt suspended starting quarterback Randall Mackey and leading rusher Jeff Scott for Saturday’s game against No. 1 LSU for violating team rules. Nutt did not say what the violations were, but said the suspensions could also include the Nov. 26 season finale against Mississippi State.

Honored Retiring Seattle Sounders star Kasey Keller has been voted Major League Soccer’s goalkeeper of the year. The 41-year-old from Olympia led MLS goalkeepers with 18 wins and 76 percent of shots saved, and he had nine shutouts.

Resigned Ousted Penn State University president Graham Spanier resigned from the board at U.S. Steel, and the Department of Defense has accepted his resignation from the board of advisers of the Naval Postgraduate School.

Dismissed A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit seeking $2.5 million from former NBA star and Detroit Pistons Allen Iverson over a 2009 Detroit bar fight. U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds found no evidence that Iverson punched an Ohio man or that the man who struck him was linked to the player, the Detroit News reported. Guy Walker, who claims he was assaulted by an Iverson security guard, plans to appeal, his lawyer said.

Calculated An Associated Press analysis shows former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is in line for a huge pension, thanks to six decades of service and recent salary of more than $500,000 a year. Paterno’s pension records obtained from the State Employees’ Retirement System show his average pay over the past three years was $554,000. He’s been in the system long enough to qualify for 110 percent thanks to a longevity supplement for older people who remain at work.

Signed Chip Ganassi Racing announced a multiyear sponsorship deal with Novo Nordisk for IndyCar driver Charlie Kimball. The deal with Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, is a multiyear agreement for Kimball, the first licensed driver with Type 1 diabetes in the Izod IndyCar Series.

Hired The New England Revolution hired former player Jay Heaps to be their new coach. Heaps was a defender for nine seasons for the MLS team.
