Area boards seek members

The Spokane Public Facilities District needs some new talent.

County commissioners are seeking candidates to replace Sandra Wade, who will leave the district’s board of directors at the end of the year because of term limits.

State law limits the district’s five directors to two four-year terms.

Directors oversee the Spokane Arena, the INB Performing Arts Center and the Spokane Convention Center. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month.

The position is open to any resident of Spokane County.

County commissioners also are seeking two volunteers for the Spokane County Shooting Advisory Committee and one for the Citizen’s Emergency Communications Systems and Facilities Advisory Committee.

The seven-member shooting committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month to advise county commissioners on areas where shooting of firearms or bows and arrows should be prohibited.

Openings on the committee are for residents of commissioner Districts 1 and 2.

The four-year opening on the communications committee is for a resident of commissioner District 1.

The six-member panel is responsible for monitoring use of a 0.1 percent sales tax to build a new communications system for law enforcement and other emergency service agencies.

The committee meets quarterly, with additional meetings as needed.
