Done early, under budget

Vehicles welcome: The bridge over the Spokane River at Appleway Road west of Stateline, Idaho, reopened for traffic on Thursday. The bridge was closed for two construction seasons and is opening ahead of schedule and under budget. The original bridge was built in 1939. The old Highway 10 crossed the Spokane River just a few hundred feet west of the state line, and the concrete marker read: “Spokane River – Perpetuating the Name of the Indian Tribe Spo-kan-ee Children of the Sun.” State and county engineers relocated part of the bridge to avoid affecting a popular kayaking spot, Dead Dog Hole.
