Area women’s basketball: Bellevue tops CCS in Everett

DeMarea Caples made 11 of 14 field goals and finished with a game-high 24 points as Bellevue beat Community Colleges of Spokane 62-49 Saturday at the Everett Classic in Everett.

Kelsey Sparks added 17 points for Bellevue (2-0), which outscored the Sasquatch 34-24 in the second half.

Emily Abbott had 14 points and Laikyn Brophy added 12 for CCS (1-1), which plays today for third place.

• Wisconsin-Whitewater (2-0) turned a dominating first half into an 80-57 rout of Whitworth at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Decatur, Ill.

Senior Lexi Belcher had a game-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Pirates (0-3).

Lauren Picha added 10 points and Kayla Johnson had seven points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

Next up for Whitworth is a game at Evergreen State on Wednesday.

• Regina Rogers and Mercedes Wetmore scored 17 points each to help Washington rally from a 17-point, first-half deficit to beat Cal State Northridge (2-2) 73-67 in Seattle.

Wetmore had 15 in the second half to reach her career high.

Jazmine Davis added 12 points and Mackenzie Argens 10 for Washington (2-1), which won its second consecutive game.
