Fined NASCAR fined Kurt Busch $50,000 for poor behavior during the Sprint Cup finale last weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Busch was penalized Friday for both making an obscene gesture in his car and being verbally abusive toward a reporter. Busch had a transmission problem early in Sunday’s race. As he and his Penske Racing Dodge headed to the garage, his in-car camera caught him making an obscene gesture. While his team made repairs, Busch waited to be interviewed by an ESPN reporter, and a fan videotaped Busch being verbally abusive while waiting to go live.

Ordered Prosecutors say an investigating judge in The Hague, Netherlands, ordered the brother of slain Seattle Mariners outfielder Greg Halman to be detained for a further two weeks on suspicion of murder or manslaughter. Halman was stabbed to death early Monday morning at an apartment in the port city of Rotterdam. Police said his stabbing may have followed an argument about loud music.

Sidelined An ESPN spokesman says Urban Meyer will not appear on the network this weekend after the former Florida football coach requested he be taken off his assignment. Several media outlets have reported that Meyer is set to become the new coach at Ohio State.

Agreed Miami coach Al Golden agreed to terms on a four-year extension, meaning he is now under contract with the Hurricanes through Feb. 1, 2020. The move was announced in the fourth quarter of the Hurricanes’ 24-17 loss to Boston College in its season-finale on Friday, somewhat unusual timing for a gesture. Golden has said in recent weeks that his family is happy in Miami and that he was looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding the Hurricanes. He had been mentioned as a possible candidate at Penn State, his alma mater.

Suspended New York Rangers forward Andre Deveaux has been suspended three games without pay by the NHL for an illegal check to the head of Florida Panthers forward Tomas Fleischmann. The incident happened Wednesday night in Florida’s 2-1 win when Deveaux elbowed Fleischmann near center ice midway through the second period. Fleischmann was taken to the locker room after the play but returned later in the period. Officials assessed a match penalty to Deveaux for an illegal check to the head that caused injury.

Died Golfer Joseph “Bud” Lewis, the professional who was the longest serving and oldest living member of the PGA of America, died of natural causes Tuesday in Wyncote, Pa. He was 103.
