Friedt lifts Whitworth to victory over Chapman

Felix Friedt totaled game highs of 24 points and nine rebounds to power the 12th-ranked Whitworth Pirates (4-0) to a 58-44 victory over the Chapman Panthers (2-2) on Saturday in the NWC-SCIAC Challenge at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif.

Jack Loofburrow chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds for Whitworth.

Brandon Lin scored 10 to pace the Panthers.

Friedt scored seven points in the first 8 minutes of the game and had 13 at halftime with his team out in front 32-21.

Friedt hit 10 of his 13 shots for the game. Wade Gebbers handed out seven assists for the Pirates.

The victory was Whitworth’s fourth straight over Chapman. Two of the four came in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament the past two seasons.

The Whits will host Lewis & Clark on Friday and George Fox on Saturday as the Northwest Conference regular season begins.

CC Spokane 77, Lower Columbia 57: Preston Wynne tied for game-high honors with 20 points and DeAngelo Jones added 15 points to carry the Sasquatch (2-0) to a victory over the Red Devils at the Red Devil Classic in Longview, Wash.

Taylor Pettersen led CCS with eight boards.

Aaron Alston paced LC with 20 points.

The Sasquatch held the Red Devils to 30.4 percent shooting.

North Idaho 86, Williston State 70: Keon Lewis scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to propel the Cardinals (6-0) to a win over the Tetons at the NIC Thanksgiving tourney.

Antoine Hosley added 16 points for NIC.
