In brief: Islamists fare best in Morocco vote

RABAT, Morocco – Morocco’s Interior Ministry says an Islamist party has won the most seats in parliamentary elections and is set to lead the next government.

Announcing final results Sunday, the ministry said the Justice and Development Party has taken 107 seats in the 395-seat legislature following the nationwide vote two days earlier.

The PJD – known by its French initials – is the latest Islamist party to win an election brought about by the Arab Spring. The right-of-center Istiqlal, a potential ally for the PJD, placed second with 60 seats.

Morocco has been swept by pro-democracy protests decrying lack of freedoms and widespread corruption. King Mohammed VI sought to defuse tensions by ordering a constitutional reform that gives parliament more power and moving up elections by a year.

Oklahoma sees flurry of earthquakes

SPARKS, Okla. – Another small earthquake has been reported in Oklahoma.

The U.S. Geological Survey said a 3.2-magnitude quake struck just before 6 a.m. Sunday about 27 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said no damage was reported.

On Saturday, a 2.4-magnitude tremor was recorded at about 7 a.m. about 50 miles northeast of Oklahoma City near Sparks.

Sunday’s earthquake is the sixth in the area since Thursday, when a 3.7-magnitude quake was recorded near Prague.

Three more were recorded Friday.

A 5.6-magnitude quake, the strongest ever recorded in Oklahoma, shook the state Nov. 5.

That quake damaged dozens of homes, buckled a highway and caused other damage.

Geologists say earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest felt by humans.
