County hosting library finalists

Staff Report

Candidates from Arizona and California will be in Spokane this week as finalists for the job of executive director of the Spokane County Library District.

The district will hold a reception for the candidates on Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at CenterPlace in Spokane Valley. The event is open to the public but requires an RSVP to or (509) 893-8205.

The two finalists are Nancy Ledeboer, library director for the Pima County Public Library system in Arizona, and Diane Smikahl Vieira, library director at the Benicia Public Library in California. Both received master’s degrees in library science in the University of California system, according to a news release.

The job pays $97,864 to $112,345 a year, a cut from the $122,345 paid to retiring director Mike Wirt. The district operates 10 branches.
