Edmonton earns first win over Spokane

EDMONTON, Alberta – The Edmonton Oil Kings took advantage of their limited opportunities to earn their first win against Spokane in franchise history.

Despite being outshot 30-19, Edmonton beat the Chiefs 4-1 in Western Hockey League action Tuesday night.

The win was the Oil Kings’ first over Spokane in five tries.

The Chiefs – losers of three straight – got out to a promising start when Corbin Baldwin scored 3 minutes, 30 seconds into the contest. Brenden Kichton and Dominik Uher assisted on the play.

That goal turned out to be all Spokane could muster.

Dylan Wruck scored twice late in the first period to give the Oil Kings the lead for good. His first goal came at the 16:34 mark and he scored again with 35 seconds left in the first.

After a scoreless second period, Edmonton got third-period goals from Michael St. Croix and Cody Corbett to take control.

The Chiefs have five more road games before returning home Dec. 10 against Prince George. Four of their next five games are in Alberta.

Spokane is 11-8-1-2, good enough for third place in the Western Conference’s U.S. Division.

The Chiefs play at Reed Deer tonight. Spokane is 0-5-1-2 away from home this season.
