Klassen earns honor

Former Spokane Chief Chad Klassen, playing professionally for the Idaho Steelheads, was named East Coast Hockey League player of the week.

Klassen had two goals and eight points in three games, including a five-point game.

He has 21 points, seven goals and 14 assists in 16 games.

Klassen, 26, made his pro debut with Victoria of the ECHL after finishing his college career at the University of Alberta.

He played 4 1/2 seasons with the Chiefs before being traded to Saskatoon for his final half year and the 2006 playoffs.

He had 35 goals and 91 points for Spokane in 2003-4.

Volleyball

Nicole Graybeal (North Central High) had 14 kills and Lauryn Herrick added 13 as Lewis-Clark State College (22-4) recovered from a first-set loss to beat Indiana Tech (34-6) 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15 in the first round of pool play at the NAIA national championships in Sioux Falls, Iowa.

Shadle Games

Shadle Park High School will hold its second Women’s Sports Alumni Games on Saturday. Shadle has added a volleyball match this year.

The matches begin at 3 p.m.
