Spokane Chiefs get first road win

RED DEER, Alberta – Mitch Holmberg scored two early third-period goals, 2 minutes, 18 seconds apart, as the Spokane Chiefs collected their first road win of the Western Hockey League season, 5-2 over the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday night. Goalie Mac Engel and winger Collin Valcourt, both Red Deer natives, made big contributions as the Chiefs also ended a three-game losing skid in their ninth road game. Valcourt earned an assist on the first of Holmberg’s goals and created havoc in front of the Red Deer net on the second that capped a string of five straight Chiefs goals. Engel stopped 13 of 15 Red Deer shots. The game likely turned late in the first period when Darren Kramer scored his 10th goal just 35 seconds after Red Deer’s first goal. Spokane dominated the second period with goals by Brenden Kichton on the power play and Dominik Uher’s 10th.
