Can’t trust mayor

I like Mayor Verner. She’s personable, works hard and she’s a fair rapper.

What I don’t like, and can’t accept, is possibly having another mayor whose integrity is questionable when faced with the hard decisions.

Of course, I’m referring to the Otto Zehm cover-up. It’s difficult to believe Mayor Verner wasn’t cognizant of this horrible offense by members of the Spokane Police Department. The police chief reports to and answers to the mayor. Did the mayor see the store video that contradicted the SPD’s position? Was the mayor aware of the lie?

So far, Mayor Verner has avoided answering those questions, and those questions demand an answer. Her two top police officers, Chief Kirkpatrick and Assistant Chief Nicks, are conveniently leaving the scene. The mayor wants to be re-elected.

The citizens of Spokane, all employers of the above, are entitled to know the truth of the mayor’s involvement in this incident. If she was in any way, shape or form a part of this cover-up, she needs to face the consequences. She may be a fair rapper, but she may have to face the rap as well.

I want a mayor I can trust. Nothing less.
