One goal remaining

Having gone two months with just one MLS defeat, Seattle Sounders FC doesn’t have much to tweak or change as October arrives and the playoffs near. “I think we need to maintain what we’re doing,” said coach Sigi Schmid (pictured right). “I think we’ve shown good character.” With a playoff berth secure, Seattle has one goal left in league play before the postseason: contend for the Supporters’ Shield, a trophy awarded to the team with the best record at the end of the regular season. A win in today’s 4:30 p.m. road game against the struggling New England Revolution is paramount to that aim if the Sounders (15-6-9) are going to make up a seven-point deficit in the standings to the Los Angeles Galaxy (17-3-10) with four games remaining. – AP
