Roundup: Taylor’s big day on ground leads CWU to win

Levi Taylor, a 2010 Lewis and Clark HS graduate, ran for a career-high 153 yards and a touchdown to guide Central Washington to its first win, a 37-17 rout of Simon Fraser in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference football game in Ellensburg.

Taylor, who carried the ball 20 times, scored on a 14-yard run that put the Wildcats ahead 14-3 midway through the second quarter.

CWU displayed its dominance in the first half, scoring on its first four possessions and taking a 31-3 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats, who host Western Oregon next Saturday, improved to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference games.

Carroll 37, Montana State-Northern 17: Carroll scored 17 unanswered third-quarter points and cruised to a 37-17 win over Montana State-Northern in Helena.

Dustin Rinker ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns and Dane Broadhead threw for two touchdowns to guide the Saints (4-1). Carroll plays at Dickinson State next Saturday.

Pacific Lutheran 21, Puget Sound 7: The Lutes’ defense stymied the Loggers and PLU (2-1, 1-0) beat UPS (0-1, 0-4) in a Northwest Conference game played Puyallup, Wash. The win was the 23rd for Pacific Lutheran in its last 24 games against Puget Sound.
