Verner answered correctly

When Mary Verner was asked to comment on the Otto Zehm case and said it would be inappropriate to do so, she was legally and ethically 100 percent correct. She was not hiding anything but simply complying with the law. Anything said out of court in an ongoing case is hearsay, a matter of opinion, not fact, and therefore tainted.

I believe police had no right to confront Otto Zehm, let alone beat him. But that is my opinion, and I am not a party to the case.

Had she replied with her opinion, it would indeed have been out of order.
