Mt. Spokane outlasts Gonzaga Prep

Kennadie Clute finished with match highs of 13 kills and 25 digs Tuesday as Mt. Spokane (5-1) outlasted host Gonzaga Prep 3-2 to move into second place alone in the Greater Spokane League.

Annie Arnzen added 25 assists and two aces for the Wildcats, who won the first two games and held off the Bullpups 16-14 in the clincher. Bianna Nikdel had 40 assists for the Bullpups (4-2).

Also in the league, Paige Montgomery and Hannah Zalopany combined for 28 kills and 10 blocks to guide first-place Mead (6-0) to a 3-1 win over visiting Central Valley. Mikayla Ness led the Bears (4-2) with 18 kills and four blocks. … Kylie Collins had 25 assists and two aces and Kayleigh Valley finished with 25 kills as visiting University (3-3) outlasted North Central 3-2. Sam Hill guided the Indians (3-3) with 15 kills, 18 digs and 10 blocks. … Darby Santos led the way with 14 kills, 12 digs and five aces as Shadle Park (3-3) swept past visiting Ferris (0-6). … Mercedes Montoya had 12 kills and Caitlyn Hughes added 24 assists to lead Lewis and Clark (1-5) to a 3-1 win at Rogers (1-5). Rachel Flint and Jenny Huynh had 13 digs and two aces apiece for Rogers.

• Ashley Meyers accounted for 13 digs, seven kills, four blocks and four aces as Clarkston (6-1) created a three-way tie for first place in the Great Northern League with a sweep at Cheney (6-1). KC McConnell added 18 digs, five kills and two blocks for the Bantams. Liz Gill led Cheney with nine kills and three aces. … Also in the GNL, Jenny Nakata recorded 13 kills and seven digs as Pullman (5-1) joined the first-place tie with a sweep at Medical Lake (0-6). Camile Davis added four blocks and four aces, and Jolene Herzog had 21 assists for the Greyhounds, the only team to defeat Clarkston in league. … Sequoia Lofton totaled 10 kills and four aces, and Aaliyah Ashley-Meek added 25 assists and seven digs to carry West Valley (3-3) to a sweep at Deer Park. Kimmie Brazington of the Stags (2-4) had eight kills and 10 digs.

• Marlee Masterson and Mariah Gladden combined for 24 kills to power Intermountain League first-place St. Maries (5-0) to a sweep at Kellogg (2-3). Masterson also teamed with Abbey Andersen for 15 digs. … Also in the IML, Kelly Madsen’s 10 kills and 14 digs helped Timberlake (3-3) to a sweep at Bonners Ferry (0-6). Nichelle Eastmond added six kills and three aces for the Tigers.

Cheney (5-4, 5-1, 15 points) continued to set the pace in the Great Northern League as Chae Brown scored a pair of second-half goals to polish off a 4-0 win over visiting Clarkston (2-5, 2-3). Briana Estrellado and Katy McNair scored 2 minutes apart in the first half to get the Blackhawks started. Cheney has outscored rivals 19-3 during its five-match winning streak. … Also in the league, Pullman (7-3, 4-1, 12 points) moved into a tie for second place with idle East Valley (5-5, 4-2) by scoring five second-half goals during a 5-0 win at Medical Lake (0-8, 0-6). Diana DeWald started the outburst at 47 minutes and Becky Birchett scored 5 minutes later. Pullman notched its sixth shutout. … West Valley (6-2, 4-2, 12 points) joined the second-place logjam as Sarah Marro, Brittni Mauro and Morgan Williams all scored two goals apiece in an 8-2 win at Deer Park (3-6, 1-5).
