P.E.A.C.H. touts access to fresh produce

Celebrate the harvest season with P.E.A.C.H. Community Farm.

The nonprofit group grows organic produce to help increase access and affordability of fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income families in Spokane. The harvest party will be held at the farm, 10425 S. Andrus Road, Cheney, starting at noon Saturday, Oct. 15. Organic gardening demonstrations, games for kids and live music are planned.

Bring a dish to share at the potluck lunch. There will be farm tours, goat petting and demonstrations for making traditional brooms from broomcorn. Tickets are $10 at the gate. There is more information at www.peachlocal.com or call (509) 216-9273.

Cupcakes for the Cure

Treat yourself for the cure with LOVE Cupcakes by Esther.

Esther Thomason will donate proceeds from the sales of her cupcakes now through Friday to the Every Woman Can Foundation. The group, created by Inland Imaging, is designed to help encourage uninsured or underinsured women age 40 and older to get breast cancer screenings.

Here’s where you can find the sweet treats. The cupcakes are twice the size of a standard cupcake and prices vary by location:

Dine out for the MAC

Local eaters can help the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture make up some of its budget shortfall this week by dining out.

Three area restaurants will donate the proceeds from dinner service this week to the MAC, including Santé Restaurant and Charcuterie, 404 W. Main Ave., and Luna, 5620 S. Perry St., in Spokane; and Left Bank Galley and Bistro, 100 S. Bridge Street, Palouse, Wash.

Here are some details:

Santé will offer a special menu during dinner service tonight through Saturday. Fifty percent of sales from that menu will be donated to the museum. Santé has new hours. It is open 9 a.m. to close Wednesday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday. Call (509) 315-4613 for reservations.

Luna will offer a prix fixe menu tonight with three or four courses for $25 to $30, showcasing the cuisine of Luna’s new executive chef Steve Jensen. Jensen was recently promoted from sous chef. Half of the money raised will be donated to the MAC. Call (509) 448-2383 for reservations.

Left Bank Gallery and Bistro in Palouse, Wash. will feature dinner 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday to support the MAC. Dinner will include salad, fresh-baked bread, Cuban Central American saffron soup capirotadas, Italian panna cotta and coffee or tea for $65. For reservations or information, call (509) 878-1800.
