College roundup: CCS captures battle for first

Brigitte Lowe and Eileen Chatfield combined for 22 kills and Community Colleges of Spokane hit .429 during a sweep of Walla Walla in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges volleyball play at Spokane Falls CC on Wednesday evening.

Joni Nagy added 24 assists and 12 digs for the Sasquatch (21-4, 6-1), who began the day tied for first place in the East Division with Walla Walla (19-6, 5-2) and Blue Mountain.

• Allison Walker powered for 24 kills and 17 digs while leading Idaho (8-9) to a sweep at Eastern Washington in nonconference play.

Jennifer Feicht added 45 assists and 11 digs for the Vandals. Lindsay Niemeier had 20 assists and 20 digs for EWU (8-9).

• Kaimi Rocha finished with 15 kills, 10 digs and three aces as 21st-ranked Whitworth (12-4, 7-0 Northwest Conference) posted a 3-1 win over visiting Whitman (1-12, 0-7) for its 10th straight win. Amanda Grumbach added 14 kills and 11 digs for the Pirates.

Men’s soccer

James Biddle and TJ Del Medico scored and Curtis Hill recorded the shutout as CC Spokane (4-3-5, 4-0-2 NWAACC) turned back Treasure Valley (2-9, 1-5) 2-0 at Ontario, Ore.

Women’s soccer

Alli Floyd scored twice during the first 16 minutes and assisted on the final score while leading CC Spokane (9-1, 6-0 NWAACC) to a 4-1 win over Treasure Valley (2-6, 2-4) at Ontario, Ore.

Women’s golf

Gonzaga junior Victoria Fallgren shot a final-round, 1-over-par 73 to tie for sixth place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Fallgren finished at 8-over 224, 10 shots behind champion Madeleine Sheils of Nebraska, while leading the Bulldogs (932) to a tie for seventh place.

Idaho (935) placed 10th, led by Kayla Mortellaro, who tied for 21st at 229.

Washington State (968) placed 12th and last, with Mallory Kent (232) tying for 27th place.

Arena football

Defensive back Terrance Sanders will return to the Spokane Shock, the team announced.

Sanders (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) had 81 tackles, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries last season.
