Scotties stay perfect

Nothing seems to be slowing down the Freeman Scotties.

After a close first half, Freeman added to its collection of victories with a 33-13 win over visiting Newport on Friday night in a battle of the Northeast A League’s finest.

Derek Harter caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Cody Unfred in the first quarter and it looked like another blowout. But the Grizzlies’ Travis Martin responded with a rushing touchdown and a touchdown pass to bring Newport (4-2, 2-2) to within seven points at the half.

Quinn Robinson sealed it for Freeman (6-0, 3-0) in the second half with two touchdown runs. He finished with 208 yards on the ground.

Great Northern

Deer Park 42, East Valley 25: The Stags (5-1, 2-1) took out their frustration from last week’s loss to Cheney in a rout of the visiting Knights (3-3, 1-1). Jason Jorgenson ran for 149 yards and three touchdowns and Colton Mead threw for 182 yards and two scores for the Stags. Deer Park was in a 12-0 hole early in the first quarter but responded to take a 21-19 lead at halftime.

West Valley 21, Clarkston 6: Tyler Stavnes ran for a touchdown and threw for another to lead the Eagles (5-1, 1-0) to a win over the host Bantams (1-5, 1-2). West Valley wore Clarkston down with a steady rushing attack and its defense shut the Bantams down for most of the game.

Northeast A

Colville 21, Riverside 0: The Rams got a steady dose of Colville’s Colton Davis as the Indians (2-4, 2-1) won at Riverside. Davis ran for 233 yards on 34 carries and scored all three of Colville’s touchdowns. Riverside (3-3, 2-2) had opportunities, but two touchdowns were called back on holding penalties.

Intermountain League

Timberlake 72, St. Maries 12: The Tigers (4-2, 2-0) scored 32 points in the second quarter and 28 in the third in a rout of the visiting Lumberjacks (1-5, 0-3) at Spirit Lake. Christian Heath scored three touchdowns and Bryan Cronnelly threw for two scores to lead Timberlake.

Kellogg 20, Bonners Ferry 14: Five-foot-6, 155-pound defensive end Justin Kitchen came away with the ball after a batted pass and raced 64 yards on the final play of the game as the Wildcats beat the host Badgers. Six-foot-2 lineman Tyler Morgan hit the Badgers quarterback to force the turnover.

North Star

Mullan 32, Clark Fork 14: After a Clark Fork touchdown to open the scoring, the Miners (1-6, 1-5) rattled off four straight touchdowns and beat the visiting Wampus Cats (1-5, 1-5). Wyatt Sadler ran for four touchdowns to guide Mullan.

Lakeside 36, Kootenai 32: Jeremy Stivers took advantage of a defensive breakdown to haul in a 58-yard touchdown reception from Brandon Smith with 1 minute and 30 seconds left to give the Knights (7-1, 6-1) a win over the host Warriors (2-5, 2-4). Kootenai drove the field on the ensuing possession but Brandon Carmon’s pass was intercepted in the end zone with 4 seconds left.

Northeast 2B

Reardan 35, Springdale 20: Roy Walser caught a touchdown and then returned an interception for a touchdown in the final 2 minutes, sealing the Indians’ win over the visiting Chargers (1-4, 1-3). Reardan (4-1, 2-1) took control early, outscoring Springdale 21-0 in the first half, and then held off a fourth-quarter rally from the Chargers.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 40, Kettle Falls 19: Dylan Hartz threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns and the Broncos (5-0, 3-0) defeated the visiting Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2). Connor O’Neill added 109 rushing yards and a score for the Broncos.

Davenport 30, Liberty 14: The Gorillas (3-3, 2-2) scored 30 first-half points and cruised to a win over the host Lancers (0-6, 0-4). Derik Oliver had two touchdown receptions to lead Davenport. Liberty scored 14 points in the fourth quarter – the Lancers’ first points of the season. Kane Seltwell had a rushing touchdown and Dylan Salbury caught a touchdown pass from Match Burnham for Liberty.

Northeast 1B

Northport 34, Selkirk 26: David Higgins scored on an 8-yard run with 2:30 left to give the Mustangs (4-2, 3-0) a win over the host Rangers (1-5, 0-3) at Ione. Higgins finished with 226 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Odessa-Harrington 42, Wilbur-Creston 28: Jared King threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Titans (4-2, 2-0) beat the visiting Wildcats (2-4, 0-2). Brett Larmer added 141 rushing yards and two touchdowns – one receiving and one rushing – for Odessa-Harrington.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 62, St. John-Endicott 20: Anthony Floyd threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Vikings (3-2, 2-0) past the host Eagles (0-4, 0-2). Garfield-Palouse scored 48 points in the first half.

Touchet 48, Colton 38: The Indians scored 20 third-quarter points and beat the visiting Wildcats. Josh Straughan threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more for Colton.

Pomeroy 40, LaCrosse-Washtucna 20: After a back-and-forth first half, the Pirates (4-1, 2-1) came alive and routed the host Tigercats (3-3, 0-3).

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 55, Moscow 0: The Vikings (6-0) put their dominance on display early and overpowered the visiting Bears (3-3). Coeur d’Alene scored 20 points in the first quarter and 21 more in the second quarter to take a commanding halftime lead. Carlos Martinez ran for 117 yards and three touchdowns – all in the first half. Chad Chalich converted 13 of 18 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns for the Vikings.

Post Falls 48, Sandpoint 6: The Trojans (6-1) scored all of their points in the first half and routed the visiting Bulldogs (1-5). Tyson Johnson ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns for Post Falls.

Curlew 34, Republic 6: The Cougars’ defense bent but didn’t break and Curlew (1-4) beat the host Tigers for its first win of the season. Republic moved the ball into the red zone on several occasions, but Curlew’s defense forced a turnover on downs each time.

Chewelah 43, Priest River 21: The Cougars (2-3) built a comfortable first-half lead and cruised to a win over the host Spartans (0-6). Calvin Connall scored three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving – for Chewelah, which led 16-0 after the first quarter.

Medical Lake 24, McLaughlin 8: Ishmel Teshome ran for two touchdowns and the Cardinals (4-2) accumulated more than 300 rushing yards as a team in a win over host McLaughlin (Ore.). Sawyer Kent caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Adam Paulson in the second quarter that put Medical Lake ahead 17-0.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 60, Wellpinit 20: Derek Isaak threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more to guide the Warriors (6-0) to a rout of the visiting Redskins (5-1). Almira/Coulee-Hartline rolled in the first quarter, scoring on every possession and taking a 40-8 lead in the second quarter.
