In brief: Man injured woman, killed self, police say

A Spokane woman was wounded Monday in an attack by her ex-boyfriend, who then fatally shot himself, police said.

The man’s body was found slumped in a yard outside a home converted into apartments in the 3100 block of East Fifth Avenue, according to the Spokane Police Department.

A gun was found nearby, neighbors said. Both the wounded woman and gunman were in their mid-20s and had recently ended a relationship, police said.

Officers responding to the attack at 12:11 p.m. found the woman inside the building with a gunshot wound to her head. She was rushed to a Spokane hospital, where she was in stable condition Monday evening, said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, police spokeswoman.

Identities were being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
