Verner’s leadership strong
I don’t understand the characterization of Mary Verner’s leadership as “weak.” The words that spring to my mind are wise, judicious, and thoughtful. What is this yearning for “macho” tilting at windmills? And, wait just a minute, let’s remember who was mayor when Otto Zehm died – that would be Dennis Hession.
Roger Bragdon, a person I very much respected, was leaving the Police Department. Jim Nicks was in charge of daily operations, and Anne Kirkpatrick had not yet arrived. She proved to be as fine a leader as we have ever mistreated. And the one name we repeatedly read about dating back to the unconstitutional search of the Marks family’s home is Rocco Treppiedi, who was the person who rushed to the Zip Trip to help the officers concoct their stories.
Could it be that the mayor and the chief have been up against an obdurate few concerned only with protecting their power? Personally, I’m voting for the feminists: Mary, Ben, Richard and Joy to lead our city.
My late husband, Bob Glatzer, ever a truth-teller no matter how uncomfortable, would have recommended the first-run film “The Debt” for its depiction of the heavy toll caused by telling lies.
