Religion Notebook: Author to speak at Nazarene

Spokane’s First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present Christian speaker Susie Shellenberger Sunday at 9 and 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Shellenberger is an ordained minister and author of more than 50 books. She created and edited Focus on the Family’s Brio Magazine for teenage girls and has appeared on Fox News.

Introduction to Buddhism

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will offer an introduction to Buddhism lecture Sunday at 9 a.m.

The lecture will be followed by a Shin Buddhist service at 10:30 a.m.

Anyone who is interested or curious about Buddhism is welcome to attend.

Fall Country Festival

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will present a Fall Country Festival Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Presented by the Teen Youth Group at the church, the event will include tractor rides, bobbing for apples, face painting, square dancing and more. There will also be free hot dogs.

Musical worship service

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., will present Pam and Jimmy Rhodes Sunday during its 10 a.m. worship service.

The two will sing songs of faith and assurance.

Volunteer opportunities

Cup of Cool Water, 1106 W. Second Ave., a nonprofit Christian ministry, will offer volunteer-training sessions Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for anyone who would like to learn to serve Spokane’s homeless youth.

The cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple and you must attend both sessions.

Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, agree with Cup of Cool Water’s statement of faith, have no felony convictions and attend all training, fill out all applications and go through an interview.

Catholic Charities of Spokane, 12 E. Fifth Ave., will present a volunteer information session Tuesday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. It will include tours of the facility and information about its many volunteer programs.

Christian Singles Fellowship will hold a meeting Saturday at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.
