Colfax holds off Broncos
The battle for first place in the Northeast 2B League went in favor of the Colfax Bulldogs – barely.
Colfax built a comfortable lead and then held off an inspired Lind-Ritzville/Sprague rally to beat the Broncos 14-13 at Colfax.
With the win, the Bulldogs remained undefeated at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in league games. The Broncos suffered their first loss, falling to 5-1 and 3-1.
The Bulldogs gained control early and, midway through the third quarter, it looked like they might make easy work of the Broncos.
Ahead 14-0, Colfax was 2 yards away from a three-touchdown lead, until a 15-yard penalty killed its momentum. The Bulldogs didn’t score and three plays later, the Broncos’ Connor O’Neill caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Hart to cut Colfax’s lead to 14-7.
With less than 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter, O’Neill went untouched on a 59-yard touchdown run, but the extra point was missed and the Broncos found themselves trailing by a point.
Colfax couldn’t run out the clock on its next possession, giving Lind-Ritzville/Sprague an opportunity, but the Broncos couldn’t capitalize.
