Idaho coach ties record with victory

Alicia Milo had 14 kills and Allison Walker added 11 kills and 13 digs as Idaho edged Fresno State 25-16, 15-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-11 in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match at Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho.

Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan picked up the 174th of her career, tying Tom Hilbert for Vandals’ school record.

Jennifer Feicht added 40 assists and 14 digs for the Vandals, who improved to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in conference matches. Fresno State fell to 8-11 and 3-4.

• After a first-set loss, Whitworth rallied to beat Pacific 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15 in a Northwest Conference match in Forest Grove, Ore.

Kaimi Rocha had 16 kills and 17 digs and Amanda Grumbach added 13 kills and 17 digs to lead the way for the Pirates.

Whitworth, which improved to 14-5 overall and 9-1 in the NWC, remains two games ahead of Puget Sound with six conference matches left in the season.

The Pirates host Linfield at 7 p.m. Friday.

• Tarrah Murrey had 12 kills and 12 digs and Elly Barret handed out 39 assists as No. 4 California (19-2, 9-2) swept Washington State 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 in a Pac-12 Conference match in Berkeley, Calif.

Meagan Ganzer had 12 kills and Marcelina Glab had six kills and four blocks for the Cougars.

Washington State (11-9, 3-7) plays Oregon in Eugene on Friday.

• No. 7 Stanford (14-3, 8-3) handed No. 2 Washington (15-3, 7-3) its second straight loss as the Cardinal beat the Huskies 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 in a Pac-12 Conference match in Palo Alto, Calif.

• Megan Ellis had 14 kills and Portland State (9-11, 5-3) beat Eastern Washington 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 in a Big Sky Conference match in Portland.

Cora Kellerman had nine kills and eight digs to lead the Eagles (8-11, 4-4), who play at Idaho State on Friday.

• Brigitte Lowe had 10 kills and seven digs and the Community Colleges of Spokane volleyball team whipped Tacoma 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 in the championship match of the Crossover Tournament at Spokane Falls Community College.

Joni Nagy added 17 assists, nine digs and seven kills for CCS (26-5), which beat Whatcom 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 earlier in the day to advance to the title match. The win over Whatcom was the second for the Sasquatch in as many days.

CC Spokane’s Kate Hart was named the tournament’s most valuable player and teammates Lowe, Nagy and Allison Reed were named to the all-tournament team.

The Sasquatch play at Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday.

Cross country

University of Idaho sophomore Hannah Kiser won the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif., and is still undefeated through four meets.

Kiser completed the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 55.3 seconds, more than 12 seconds ahead of the next-best collegiate finisher.

The Vandals women finished fourth as a team.

Junior Barry Britt took 16th place to lead the Idaho men. Britt finished the 8,000-meter course in 24:21.5.

Women’s soccer

West Coast Conference newcomer BYU scored three second-half goals and clipped Gonzaga 3-2 in Spokane.

The Bulldogs’ Kasey Rubosky opened the scoring in the 49th minute, but the Cougars (8-4-3, 2-1-1) scored the next two goals and an own goal in the 82nd minute gave them a 3-1 lead.

Cricket Harber’s unassisted goal in the 89th minute capped the scoring.

Next up for Gonzaga (7-6-2, 0-2-2) is a match at Pepperdine on Friday.

• Whitney Brannan had a goal and two assists to guide Eastern Washington to a 3-0 Big Sky Conference win over Weber State (5-9-1, 3-1-1) in Ogden, Utah. The win was the Eagles’ first conference victory of the season.

Brannon assisted on Cassie Black’s fourth-minute goal and again on Siara Byers 57th-minute tally. She then capped the scoring in the 59th minute with a goal of her own.

Eastern Washington (2-11, 1-4) hosts Northern Colorado on Friday.

• Cory Druffel and Mackenzie Grow scored second-half goals to guide Whitworth to a 2-0 Northwest Conference win over Pacific Lutheran in Packland, Wash.

Druffel’s goal came in 50th minute and Grow’s in the 62nd minute.

With the win, Whitworth improved to 6-4-2 overall and 6-2-2 in conference matches. Pacific fell to 3-8 and 2-7.

• Kaylie Winston scored three goals as Walla Walla routed Community Colleges of Spokane 5-1 in an NWAACC match at Spokane Falls Community College.

Nikki Caudill scored the Sasquatch’s lone goal in the 71st minute.

With the loss, CCS fell to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Walla Walla improved to 13-0-1 and remained perfect in the NWAACC at 9-0.

CCS hosts Yakima Valley on Wednesday.

• Jennifer Nichols had a goal and an assist to guide Colorado University’s gold club team to a 2-0 nonconference win over North Idaho in Cheyenne, Wyo.

The loss was the Cardinals’ first of the season.

North Idaho (12-1-1) will play Gonzaga’s club team next Saturday on GU’s intramural field.

Men’s soccer

Jake Helms’ unassisted goal in the 45th minute was the difference as Walla Walla (10-1-1, 7-0-1) edged Community Colleges of Spokane 1-0 in a NWAACC match in Spokane.

The Sasquatch (5-4-5, 5-1-2) outshot Walla Walla 10-9 in the contest, but could not find the back of the net. The Sasquatch’s T.J. Del Medico attempted six shots, including three shots on goal.

CCS hosts North Idaho on Wednesday.
