Boise-area couple killed near Snoqualmie Pass

An Idaho couple died when their car was crushed between two semi-trucks as traffic slowed through a construction zone on eastbound Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass. The Washington State Patrol identifies them as 68-year-old Jess Albert Bass and 73-year-old Jean Elaine Bass of Star, Idaho, northwest of Boise. Two cars and three trucks were involved in the chain-reaction crash in the early afternoon on Monday that also injured five people. The patrol says inattention on the part of one truck driver caused the crash. It backed up traffic for seven miles. The freeway is undergoing widening east of the pass, and construction crews this week were restricting eastbound traffic in preparation for moving eastbound traffic to the new pavement.
