Property crimes a conundrum

Reading the Oct. 6 front section, I thought it remarkable that the city of Spokane was terminating the property crimes division of the Spokane Police Department and in the same issue – indeed, an adjacent article – touting the new $3.4 million evidence storage facility.

As I understand it, about 75 percent of the space utilized in evidence storage comes from property crimes. What does the city have to say that would justify to taxpayers the use of resources and their executive decision-making?
