Sagle legislator stepping aside after redistricting

Associated Press

BOISE — With the ink barely dry on Idaho’s redistricting maps, one senator has announced she’s won’t run again following the 2012 session: Joyce Broadsword of Sagle.

The four-term Republican was pushed into a district where Broadsword would have faced Republican Sen. Shawn Keough in May’s primary if she’d campaigned again.

Broadsword’s retirement allows Keough to run without opposition from a GOP incumbent.

Broadsword had represented voters in District 2, covering Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah and Shoshone counties.

With the 2011 redistricting maps that were drawn last Friday, however, Broadsword’s home now falls into District 1, reflecting population changes on Idaho’s northern panhandle.

Broadsword told the Associated Press Thursday she’s keeping her future political options open — and taking classes at North Idaho College to prepare for life beyond the Legislature.

You two should do your homework. Sen. Broadsword is a moderate voice of prudence and wisdom. We need more legislators like her in Idaho, not fewer.

shademuse, Actually Broadsword was a liberal Republican, voting with the democrats. What is refered to as a RINO. She will not be missed by Republicans in Idaho. Keough, is more favorably viewed. You will love the fact that the new districts are forcing good Republicans to run against each other. It was orchastrated by the Ron Paul people in southern Idaho, much to the dislike of Nirth Idaho people. Northern Idaho is ignored by the rest of the state. Southern Idaho is essentially RINO country. The Governor listens to them more then he listens to Republicans.

    Whats NIRTH Idaho?

Southern Idaho Is more Conservative then NORTH IDaho, I dont know about Nirth Idaho? As for Liberal Republicans I dont think their are that many left, In the last eight years they pretty much bolted to the Democratic Party like Eisenhours Nixons reagan and Goldwater-Miller Kids.

Broadsword a “tea-bagger?” What on earth have you been smoking?
She will not be missed by Republicans in Idaho. Keough, is more favorably viewed.
Keough is every bit as, or more, liberal than Broadsword. But you are right in that Keough lacks Broadsword’s arrogance and ego.

“Sen. Broadsword is a moderate voice of prudence and wisdom.”

Using the words prudence and wisdom in the same sentence with any Bozo from Boise is oxymoronic. Every one of them isn’t worth the air they breathe. Some more than others but all never the less.
