Street race ends with car crashed into Garry Middle School

A street race between a Camaro and a Subaru on Friday night ended with one of the cars crashed into Garry Middle School. The cars were racing near Cincinnati Street and Central Avenue when the Camaro lost control, hitting the school. One occupant was ejected, the other partially ejected. Both were transported to a local hospital, said Spokane police in a news release. The driver of the Subaru fled the scene, but she was found at a nearby home and arrested for vehicular assault, police said. Charges are pending against the driver of the Camaro. Police did not release the names of any of the people involved. The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. It is unknown how much damage was done and school officials could not be reached Saturday. However, glass and other debris could be seen around the apparent crash site this afternoon and the wall of what appears to be an outbuilding was marred with scratches and a hole.
