1. B. Demographers say there were 1 billion people in 1804. The population hit 3 billion in 1959, 4 billion in 1974, 5 billion in 1987 and 6 billion in 1998.

2. A. Farnsworth is the new forest supervisor for the Idaho Panhandle National Forest. She started this month.

3. E. The orchards are suffering from a lack of pickers, partly because of the tightening of immigration policies. Growers have signs up throughout Central Washington, advertising for workers.

4. D. There are five former Indians – Ian Kinsler, Derek Holland, Mitch Moreland, Neftall Feliz and Craig Gentry – playing for the Rangers. Texas first base coach Gary Pettis is also a former Indian.
