Vandals hand coach Buchanan her school-best 175th win

Allison Walker finished with 17 kills and hit a season-high .389 as host Idaho (12-11, 6-4 Western Athletic Conference) swept Louisiana Tech (9-17, 0-9) to give coach Debbie Buchanan her 175th win, tops in school history.

Alicia Milo added 14 kills, nine digs and three blocks for the Vandals, who solidified their hold on third place.

• Kim Hill, Lilla Frederick and Samantha Cash combined for 34 kills and 18th-ranked Pepperdine (16-5, 10-0 West Coast Conference) finished with a .393 hitting percentage in a sweep of Gonzaga at Malibu, Calif.

Denise Van de Mortel had team highs of 23 assists and six digs for the Bulldogs (7-14, 1-9), who are in the conference cellar.

Women’s soccer

Stephanie Ochs assisted on a pair of first-half goals as San Diego (10-7, 5-1) won its fifth consecutive West Coast Conference match with a 3-0 decision at Gonzaga.

Dani Russell headed in a free kick in the 60th minute to complete the Toreros’ scoring.

The Bulldogs (7-9-2) lost their fifth consecutive conference match and will complete WCC play Nov. 5 at Portland.

Junior hockey

Spokane Chiefs defenseman Brenden Kichton has been selected to play for Team WHL during the Canadian Hockey League’s series against Team Russia.

Kichton will play Nov. 16 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
