Mead sweeps G-Prep in district volleyball title mach

Dana Norris had 14 kills and Sierra Cook added 17 digs as Mead earned District 8’s top seed to the 4A regional volleyball tournament with a 28-26, 25-17, 27-25 win over Gonzaga Prep Saturday at Mt. Spokane High School.

The Bullpups led 24-20 in the first game, but the Panthers rallied back to win it.

With the win, Mead earned a first-round bye at regionals. G-Prep will play a loser-out match Tuesday at home against Wenatchee.

In the other District 8 4A match, Central Valley earned the third and final seed to regionals with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 win over Lewis and Clark. The Tigers were eliminated.

Mickayla Ness had 12 kills and four digs and Tia Tau passed out 27 assists to lead the Bears. The Bears play at Richland on Tuesday.

• Kennadie Clute had 10 aces and 13 kills as Mt. Spokane beat North Central 25-23, 16-25, 25-12, 25-22 in the District 8 3A title match at Mt. Spokane.

Sam Hill had 12 kills, five aces, 15 digs and five blocks to lead the Indians.

Mt. Spokane is the top seed to the regional tournament and North Central is the second seed.

• Jenny Nakata had 12 digs and three aces as Pullman beat West Valley 15-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-16 in the District 7 2A title match in Pullman.

The Greyhounds earned the No. 1 seed to regionals.

West Valley earned the No. 2 seed after beating Clarkston 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 26-24.

Clarkston, which eliminated East Valley earlier in the day, will advance to regionals as the No. 3 seed.

• Joellee Buckner had 17 kills as Colville earned the No. 1 seed to the regional tournament with a 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20 win over Freeman in the District 7 1A championship match at Colville.

Kaela Straw had 11 kills and seven blocks to lead the Scotties. The Scotties earned the No. 2 seed.

The regional tournament will begin Saturday at Chelan.

In the other District 7 1A match, Newport was eliminated after falling 25-18, 25-19, 26-24 to Lakeside. The Eagles earned the third seed to regionals.

Girls soccer

Hannah Holm scored off an assist from Lexi Clark in the 37th minute and University (8-6) avoided elimination with a 1-0 win over West Valley (Yakima) in a 3A regional play-in game at University. The Titans advance to play at Southridge on Wednesday.

• Hannah Bowerman’s goal in the 64th minute gave East Valley (12-6) a 2-1 win over Cheney (10-8) in a District 7 2A match at East Valley.

The win was East Valley’s third over Cheney in the last 10 days.

The Knights will play Pullman in the district title match at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gonzaga Prep.

Pullman (14-4) advanced to the title match after beating West Valley 3-1. Laura DeWald had two of the Greyhounds’ goals.

West Valley (12-5) will play Cheney at 8 p.m. Tuesday at G-Prep for the No. 3 seed to the regional tournament.
