Rex Burkhead scored three touchdowns and ran for 130 yards on 35 carries, and No. 13 Nebraska defeated ninth-ranked Michigan State 24-3 Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb., to take control of the Big Ten Legends Division.

Burkhead, who went over 100 yards for the fifth time in six games, scored at the end of 80- and 89-yard drives in the third quarter to put Nebraska up 24-3.

Taylor Martinez completed 6 of 7 passes for 80 yards in the third quarter after going 1 for 6 in the first half.

Michigan State (6-2, 3-1), coming off the incredible finish to its win over Wisconsin last week, managed just 187 yards against Nebraska’s improving defense. Kirk Cousins was 11 of 27 for 86 yards, with an interception that set up the Huskers’ first score.

The win was Nebraska’s second in its last 17 against top-10 opponents. It pulled the Huskers (7-1, 3-1) into a tie with Michigan State for the Legends Division lead, but they own the tiebreaker against the Spartans.

(3) Oklahoma State 59, Baylor 24: Joseph Randle set career-highs by running for 152 yards and four TDs, Justin Blackmon matched his career best with 13 catches for 172 yards and two scores and the Cowboys (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) rolled past the Bears (4-3, 1-3) in Stillwater, Okla.

The Cowboys started a season with eight straight wins for only the second time in school history. The other time was in 1945, when they finished the season 9-0, won the Sugar Bowl and were ranked fifth.

(8) Arkansas 31, Vanderbilt 28: Zach Hocker kicked a 42-yard field goal with 6:53 left, and the Razorbacks (7-1, 3-1 SEC) rallied to beat the Commodores (4-4, 1-4) in Nashville, Tenn.

The Commodores had the ball at the Arkansas 5 in the fourth quarter leading 28-20 when Zac Stacy fumbled and Jerry Franklin picked it up and ran it 94 yards for a TD. Tyler Wilson found Jarius Wright in the end zone for the tying 2-point conversion with 13:25 left.

Vandy missed a chance to force overtime when Carey Spear’s 27-yard field goal went wide right with 8 seconds left.

(11) Oklahoma 58, (10) Kansas State 17: Landry Jones threw for a school-record 505 yards and five TDs, Ryan Broyles caught 14 passes for 171 yards and a score, and the Sooners (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) routed the Wildcats (7-1, 4-1) in Manhattan, Kan.

Jones’ passing total shattered the previous record of 468 yards he shared with Sam Bradford, while Broyles moved into first place on the Big 12’s career list with 4,499 yards receiving.

Ohio State 33, (12) Wisconsin 29: Braxton Miller threw a 40-yard TD pass to Devin Smith with 20 seconds left to lift the Buckeyes (5-3, 2-2 Big Ten) to an upset win over the Badgers (7-2, 3-2) in Columbus, Ohio.

It was almost exactly seven days earlier that the Badgers were beaten 37-31 at Michigan State on a miracle pass on the final play. This heartbreak, just like that one, wasn’t confirmed until it passed a video review.

(14) South Carolina 14, Tennessee 3: Connor Shaw threw for one TD and ran for another as the Gamecocks (7-1, 5-1 SEC) defeated the Volunteers (3-5, 0-5) in Knoxville, Tenn.

Brandon Wilds had 137 yards on 28 carries and was the centerpiece of a methodical drive that ate up much of the third quarter. He ran 11 times for 51 yards on the 20-play drive, and Shaw finished it off with a 5-yard TD run.

(15) Virginia Tech 14, Duke 10: David Wilson rushed for 148 yards and the Hokies (8-1, 4-1 ACC) overcame a sloppy performance to beat the Blue Devils (3-5, 1-3) in Durham, N.C., for its ACC-record 11th straight road victory.

The Hokies entered as 15-point favorites and made just enough plays to claim their fourth straight victory.

Missouri 38, (16) Texas A&M 31 (OT): James Franklin’s 11-yard TD pass to Marcus Lucas in overtime lifted the Tigers (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) to an overtime win over the Aggies (5-3, 3-2) in College Station, Texas.

The Aggies got the ball after the score, but Ryan Tannehill’s pass on fourth down was batted down.

The Tigers had a chance to win it in regulation, but a 46-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide right as time expired.

(17) Michigan 36, Purdue 14: Fitzgerald Toussaint ran for a career-high 170 yards and tied a career high with two TDs, leading the Wolverines (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten) over the Boilermakers (4-4, 2-2) in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines gave up a TD on the opening drive of the game, then scored 36 straight points.

Iowa State 41, (19) Texas Tech 7: Redshirt freshman Jared Barnett threw for a TD and ran for another, and the Cyclones (4-4, 1-4) shocked the Red Raiders (5-3, 2-3) in Lubbock, Texas.

Barnett rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries and completed 14 of 26 passes for 144 yards. His touchdowns were career firsts.

(21) Penn State 10, Illinois 7: Joe Paterno broke Eddie Robinson’s record for victories by a Division I coach with No. 409 as the Nittany Lions (8-1, 5-0 Big Ten) edged the Fighting Illini (6-3, 2-3) in State College, Pa.

Penn State overcame six fumbles with Silas Redd’s 3-yard TD run with 1:08 left in the game.

Illinois had a chance to tie, but Derek Dimke’s 42-yard field goal attempt bounced off the right upright as time expired.

(22) Georgia 24, Florida 20: Aaron Murray threw two TD passes on fourth down, and the Bulldogs (6-2, 5-1 SEC) edged the Gators (4-4, 2-4) in Jacksonville, Fla.

It was Georgia’s fourth win in the last 22 games against Florida.

(25) West Virginia 41, Rutgers 31: Geno Smith threw two second-half TD passes and scored a go-ahead TD on a fourth-down, 1-yard run with 6:18 to play as the Mountaineers (6-2, 2-1 Big East) rallied past the Scarlet Knights (5-3, 2-2) in Piscataway, N.J.

West Virginia rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to post its 17th straight win over Rutgers.
