Notre Dame rebounds to stomp Navy

Two minutes took care of a lot of Notre Dame’s problems.

Michael Floyd and Jonas Gray scored in a 1:59 span in the second quarter Saturday to effectively put the game out of reach, and Notre Dame rebounded from a rough week with a 56-14 rout of Navy at South Bend, Ind.

Gray rushed for three touchdowns and Cierre Wood added two more for the Irish (5-3), who finished with seven rushing touchdowns and 442 yards of total offense.

Floyd also had two TDs, scoring on a 56-yard catch and a 10-yard lateral for Notre Dame, which beat Navy for the second time in five years after winning 43 straight from 1964 to 2006. The Irish suffered a lopsided loss to USC last week.

The Midshipmen (2-6) were held to a season-low 229 yards of total offense as they lost their sixth straight, and will have to win out to have any hope of going to a bowl game for a ninth straight year.

Louisville 27, Syracuse 10: Teddy Bridgewater passed for two touchdowns, Victor Anderson rushed for 93 yards and a score and the Cardinals (4-4, 2-1 Big East) beat the Orange (5-3, 1-2) at Louisville, Ky.

Louisville got a visit from Anthony Conner, who broke his neck against Rutgers last week, in the locker room before the game and showed a lot of emotion in a big-play first quarter that helped it to consecutive conference wins for the first time since 2006.

North Carolina 49, Wake Forest 24: Redshirt freshman Giovani Bernard scored three touchdowns and had his sixth 100-yard rushing performance to help the Tar Heels (6-3, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Demon Deacons (5-3, 4-2) at Chapel Hill, N.C., and become bowl eligible for the fourth straight season.

Bernard ran for a pair of touchdowns and had a 7-yard scoring catch in the first quarter, while North Carolina took advantage of five turnovers by Wake Forest. The Tar Heels converted four of those into touchdowns.

Tulsa 38, Southern Methodist 7: Willie Carter set career highs with 13 receptions for 173 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown, as the Golden Hurricane (5-3, 4-0 Conference USA) drilled the Mustangs (5-3, 3-2) at Tulsa, Okla.

Brown 6, Pennsylvania 0: The Bears (6-1, 3-1) ended the Quakers’ (4-3, 3-1) 18-game Ivy League winning streak on the strength of two field goals by Alexander Norocea at Providence, R.I.
