Only deluded believe Cougs should win

I read with interest Paul Wulff’s claim that the Oregon State loss was most disappointing because improvement of the Cougar football program has given fans the chance to expect victory.

Really, though, who may I ask, aside from Vince Grippi (“a game they should win”) and local sports radio jocks (the Cougars by only three points is a joke) is so deluded to think the Cougars in this incarnation can be “expected” to beat anybody?

With all due respect, the real problem with the Wulff era is the abysmal 8-36 record – a record, I might add, that would be unacceptable at the Pop Warner level, let alone a school in the Pac-12.

What kind of message does it send to fans, alumni and potential recruits that Mike Stoops could go 51-60 at a second-tier Pac-10/12 school (Arizona) and lose his job midseason, and at WSU nobody is calling for a change?

Answer: That losing is acceptable at Wazzu as long as the coach is a home-grown nice guy who can sell the powers that be on rosy prospects for the future one moment, and get crushed by a lower-echelon opponent the next.
