Tri-City keeps Chiefs winless on road

KENNEWICK – Brendan Shinnimin and Justin Feser scored third-period goals and the Tri-City Americans kept the Spokane Chiefs winless on the road this season with a 3-1 victory in Western Hockey League play on Saturday.

Spokane is 8-0 at home this season, but fell to 0-3-0-1 away from the Arena.

The U.S. Division-leading Americans have won two of three against Spokane and lead the Chiefs by five points in the standings. Spokane (8-3-0-1) trails the second-place Portland Winterhawks by one point.

Shinnimin opened the scoring for Tri-City with a goal at the 7:26 mark of the first period.

Blake Gal scored Spokane’s only goal of the night at 16:58 in the first to knot the score at 1. Dominik Uher and Steven Kuhn assisted on Gal’s second goal of the season. Uher’s assist stretched his point streak to seven straight games.

Mac Engel stopped 39 of 41 shots on the night for the Chiefs. Feser’s goal for Tri-City was an empty-netter with 1 minute remaining in the contest.

Ty Rimmer turned away 28 of 29 shots on goal for the Americans (11-5-0-0).

Spokane returns to the ice Saturday when it hosts the Americans.
