Liberty Lake Blotter: Concession stand break-in fruitless

There was no shortage of incidents to keep the Liberty Lake Police Department busy Aug. 22-29, but luckily most of the calls were minor.

On Aug. 23 someone reported damage to the newly remodeled concession stand at Rocky Hill Park, a project that was close to home for Police Chief Brian Asmus. “This was a project we did as part of our Rotary Club,” he said. Someone cut the lock off the roll-up door, but nothing was taken.

“It’s empty,” Asmus said. “There’s nothing to take. They probably thought there was candy and soda.”

Freedom RV in the 19600 block of East Cataldo Avenue reported on Aug. 25 that several deep cycle RV batteries had been stolen. Asmus said the RV dealership has been a frequent target for thieves since only part of the lot is fenced. A suspect was identified in the case after an officer monitoring the location caught a group of people who may have a connection to the theft. “They had battery cases and wire snippers,” Asmus said.

A concert in Pavillion Park the evening of Aug. 26 was disrupted by a juvenile who sprayed several other juveniles in the face with mace at the skate park. “He got the mace from another kid, who got it from another kid,” Asmus said. “Nobody wanted to press charges.”

Police also responded to calls involving loud parties, vandalism, drunk and disorderly people and trespassing. A trailer stolen from Bozeman was recovered at the old Kia dealership on East Mission. The department assisted Spokane Valley Police with a shooting at Pines Road and Mansfield Avenue on Aug. 22.

Airway Heights resident Timothy D. Engle, 45, was arrested on a charge of felony domestic violence harassment on Aug. 27 after allegedly calling his girlfriend and threatening to kill her, Asmus said. Officers also made two arrests for driving with a suspended license and two arrests on warrants for driving with a suspended license.

During the week officers wrote three citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance and two for speeding. Additional citations were given for license and plates required, driving without a license with identification, illegal use of studded tires, failure to move left for approaching emergency vehicle, unsafe/improper backing, use of a cell phone while driving and littering.
