Revealed Tests revealed former New York Mets great Gary Carter has blood clots in his lungs and right leg. The Hall of Famer was rushed to the emergency room Tuesday after experiencing a sharp pain in his chest and shortness of breath, according to an online journal written by his daughter Kimmy Bloemers. Carter underwent an EKG, blood work, and an X-ray and CT scan of his chest. He was released Wednesday after a CT scan of his brain showed no bleeding.

Suspended Mississippi State suspended five players Thursday for its season opener against Memphis, including starting defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and third-string quarterback Dylan Favre. Mississippi State released a list of the suspended players two hours before the game. The other three are offensive tackle Blaine Clausell, linebacker Chris Hughes and receiver Malcolm Johnson. Team spokesman Joe Galbraith said the suspensions were for a “variety of violations of team rules.”

Reported Three more football players are in hot water at Ohio State, which might be in even more trouble with the NCAA. The school reported that running back Jordan Hall, defensive back Corey Brown and defensive back Travis Howard each received impermissible benefits of $300 or less earlier this year. The latest violations took place after several Buckeyes players were suspended for accepting cash and free tattoos from the subject of a federal drug-trafficking probe and Ohio State had ramped up its compliance department to warn athletes not to break NCAA rules.

Charged Prosecutors charged suspended Tulsa wide receiver Damaris Johnson with one count of felony embezzlement. According to online court records, an arrest warrant also was issued Wednesday for Johnson, the NCAA all-purpose yardage record-holder. Johnson was questioned last week after his girlfriend, Chamon Jones, was arrested on an embezzlement complaint.

Agreed It took Roush Fenway Racing less than a month to put together a major portion of Carl Edwards’ sponsorship package. Fastenal agreed to sponsor Edwards for 17 races in the Sprint Cup Series beginning next season. The deal came a little more than three weeks after Edwards ended his free agency by agreeing to a long-term deal with Roush.
