Hession hurt neighborhoods

Dennis Hession is running for Spokane City Council president. This is the same Dennis Hession who, as mayor, fired the community development director so that he would have free rein to invest the majority of community development funding in support of Marshall Chesrown’s Kendall Yards, and reduce or eliminate funding to all other community development neighborhoods. At that time, the Kendall Yards development targeted higher-income people exclusively. The action by Mayor Hession flew in the face of our community advisory councils, the city consolidated and comprehensive plans, HUD regulations and the best interest of our neighborhoods. The Northeast, East Central, West Central and Peaceful Valley community centers, as well as Home Rehabilitation and other programs, would have been decimated.

In large part, he lost the election for mayor as a result. I want a council president who respects our community councils and citizen advisory boards and does not kowtow to special interests. Ben Stuckart is a strong supporter of our neighborhoods and will be an outstanding council president.
