Child enticing reported in Coeur d’Alene

child enticing, Coeur d’Alene Police Department

A child enticing report was filed Thursday with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. While several acts of child enticement have occurred in Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene over the last year, police do not think the most recent case is connected, said Lt. Don Ashenbrenner. “At this time we would probably think this is separate,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of info right now, but there does not seem to be a connection at this time.” He said the description of the van was different than in other cases. The incident occurred about 4:54 p.m. in the area of North White Pines Drive and North Grand Fir Drive, according to the police report. The victim was leaving a friend’s house by bicycle when she noticed a black van parked nearby. As she rode past, the van followed her in reverse, the report said. At one point, she looked back and saw the driver wave his arm out the window and motion for her to come to the van. The girl told police it was a full-size van, dull black in color, with shiny black, tinted windows. She thought the driver was a white male, but was unable to tell for sure. The girl made it home safely and her mother reported the incident. “Anytime you see something suspicious, give us a call,” Ashenbrenner said. “Keep a close eye on your child and where they go and where you let them go. Make sure they know what to do in situations like that.”
