Couplets don’t make or break businesses

With all the debate about changing Sprague Avenue back to a two-way street, I think it’s important to realize that the business failure on Sprague didn’t just start or end with the couplet.

University City died before the change was made, and Opportunity Center has died with it being two-way in front of it.

Spending a lot more tax money to reverse the current couplet will not bring back those businesses. Look to the Valley Mall and the development of Sullivan as more of the reason why the couplet businesses have failed.

Mismanagement of businesses cannot be changed by street traffic, nor can businesses that are lost to changing lifestyles (travel agencies, video stores, etc.).  Let’s please use our tax dollars more wisely than trying to reverse the irreversible.
