Pac-12 roundup: Hours after game USC scores again

Matt Kalil blocked Utah’s 41-yard field-goal attempt on the final play and Torin Harris returned it for a touchdown that wasn’t counted until two hours after the game ended in Southern California’s wacky 23-14 victory Saturday night in the first game in Pac-12 history.

Matt Barkley passed for 264 yards for the Trojans (2-0, 1-0), but they couldn’t celebrate until Kalil swatted down Coleman Petersen’s final kick after the Utes (1-1, 0-1) drove into field-goal range from their 33 in the final 1:01.

Harris returned the kick into the Utah end zone, but the officials appeared to rule the touchdown didn’t count because of an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty when much of the USC bench ran onto the field to celebrate.

Long after the Coliseum had emptied, Pac-12 officials announced Harris had scored after all.

California 36, Colorado 33 (OT): Keenan Allen hauled in a 5-yard TD pass from Zach Maynard in overtime, lifting the Bears to a thrilling win over the Buffaloes in Boulder, Colo.

Maynard lofted a pass into the corner for Allen, who easily beat Colorado defensive back Parker Orms to set off a wild celebration by the Bears (2-0).

It counts as a nonconference victory for Cal, as the schools scheduled the game before Colorado (0-2) joined the Pac-12.

(6) Stanford 44, Duke 14: Andrew Luck matched a career high by throwing four touchdown passes in the Cardinal’s rout of the Blue Devils (0-2) in Durham, N.C.

Stanford (2-0) won its 10th straight game dating to last season and claimed a rare regular-season win on the East Coast.

(13) Oregon 69, Nevada 20: Darron Thomas matched a school record with six touchdown passes and the Ducks (1-1) bounced back from their season-opening loss to beat the Wolfpack (0-1) in Eugene, Ore.

LaMichael James ran for 67 yards and a touchdown, caught a scoring pass from Thomas and returned a punt for a score.

(8) Wisconsin 35, Oregon State 0: Russell Wilson threw three touchdowns and the Badgers (2-0)overcame a slow start from their running game to beat the Beavers (0-2) at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis.

UCLA 27, San Jose State 17: Derrick Coleman rushed for 135 yards – all in the second half – and the Bruins (1-1) survived a lackluster performance to beat the Spartans in Pasadena, Calif., handing San Jose (0-2) its 24th loss in 27 games dating back to the beginning of the 2009 season.
