Sunday Locals: Valley softball team places fifth

Sullivan Scoreboard from Spokane Valley finished fifth in the Amateur Softball Association Women’s D Slow Pitch West National tournament last weekend at the Merkel Sports Complex in northwest Spokane.

Sullivan, which had a 1-2 record, was the top finisher among three area teams in the seven-team tournament. Two Coeur d’Alene teams, North Idaho Merchants and Bio-Tech, both were 0-2 and finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Cartel from Lake Stevens, Wash., which came from behind for three of its four victories, rallied from a 10-2 deficit after three innings to defeat Team Alaska from Anchorage 14-11 in the championship game.

Michelle Mobley from Cartel was the tournament MVP. Laura Tucker from Alaska won the batting title (.786) and Sara Neuschwander from Alaska was the home run champion (three).

Wrestling

First meeting for new wrestling officials will be Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Round Table Pizza in the 5-Mile Shopping Center, 1908 W. Francis Ave.

Participants are asked to bring a three-ring binder and $10.
