150-acre fire reported on Selkirk Crest

From Staff Reports

A 150-acre fire was reported burning Monday about 20 miles east of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on the Selkirk Crest near Smith Peak, according to the Forest Service.

Warm weather and dry conditions have resulted in increased fire activity throughout the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, with more than 70 individual fire starts reported since Sept. 1.

Seven active fires of 20 acres or more are currently burning on the forest. All were started by lightning strikes within the past few weeks.

Forest visitors should be alert to the potential for road and trail closures, which can be found on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests website at fs.usda.gov/ipnf, or by contacting a local Forest Service office.
