Spokane-born pianist to give concerts at UI

Spokane-born pianist Stephen Drury returns to the region for a pair of concerts next week at the University of Idaho.

Drury and his Callithumpian Consort – an ensemble of two pianists and four percussionists – will perform three pieces by major modern composers Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the university auditorium in Moscow.

The program includes Béla Bartók’s Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion, John Cage’s “Credo in US” and Steve Reich’s Sextet.

Drury also will perform works by Cage, Robert Schumann and Charles Ives in a solo piano recital next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Haddock Performance Hall on the UI campus. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students.

The Rogers High School graduate grew up in Spokane and has gone on to an international performing and recording career, with an emphasis on contemporary music.
