In brief: Body is found in Spokane River

A body was found in the Spokane River early Sunday by an employee at a nearby hotel.

Spokane police recovered the body, which was spotted shortly before 8 a.m. in the river near the Red Lion Hotel at the Park, 303 W. River Drive, according to the Spokane Police Department.

Identity of the deceased was unavailable and major crimes detectives were called to the downtown riverbank to help determine cause of death, police said.

The Spokane County dive team also was called to the scene to assist.

Motocross racer suffers fatal injuries

A motocross racer was killed this weekend at the Airway Motocross Park.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office was called to the park in Airway Heights about 7 p.m. Saturday, according to KHQ-TV.

MedStar was also called to the scene to assist, but the rider died from his injuries, KHQ reported.

The victim has not been identified, and details of the crash have not been released.

Motorcyclist critically injured in I-90 crash

A motorcyclist was injured in a crash on Interstate 90 about 16 miles east of Ritzville, Wash., Sunday.

Robert E. Bean, 72, was thrown from his 2010 Harley Davidson after he left the roadway while westbound at milepost 236, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Bean, of Spokane, was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred about 8:51 a.m.

He was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Injured motorcycle crash victim dies

A motorcyclist injured in a crash on Highway 95 in Sagle Sept. 8 died Sunday, officials said.

Lawrence E. Barber, 60, of Twin Falls, Idaho, was pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle of injuries sustained in a head-on collision with a 2011 Chevy Silverado driven by Tajh P. Lecompte, 33, of Elton, La., who was hospitalized in stable condition.

Lecompte was in the left turn lane and turned left in front of Barber, who was northbound on a Suzuki motorcycle, according to the Idaho State Police.

The vehicles struck head-on in the northbound lane. Barber was who was wearing a helmet, was driving a 1986 Suzuki Motorcycle.
