Gallery out with groin injury

NFL: Seattle’s Robert Gallery is headed to the sidelines for at least the next month with a groin injury that requires surgery.

It’s the second significant injury for Gallery in the last few weeks, but this one will put him out for the next four to six weeks, according to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

The injury came early in the first quarter on Sunday and was an aggravation of a problem that dates to training camp. Gallery played the entire game and learned of the injury afterward.

Zags to play in Canada

Basketball: For just the second time in its NCAA Division I history, the Gonzaga University men’s team will play a game outside the United States when the Bulldogs face Hawaii Nov. 19 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The BC Basketball Classic will be staged in Rogers Arena, home of the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL.  The game will be a homecoming for Gonzaga senior center Robert Sacre who grew up in North Vancouver.

The only other time the Bulldogs have played a basketball game outside the United States was Nov. 25-26, 1966, when the Bulldogs participated in the Totem Tournament hosted by the University of British Columbia.

The Bulldogs also completed their schedule with the addition of Longwood University of Farmville, Va., on senior night Feb. 27 in the McCarthey Athletic Center.
