Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro tied for second place and led the Vandals to third place Tuesday as the 13-team Washington State Cougar Cup wrapped up at Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
Mortellaro carded a 3-under-par 69 to finish at 5-over 221, tied with SooBin Kim of team champion Washington and freshman Kristen Rue of Washington State.
The Vandals shot 910 to finish 20 shots behind UW and eight shots back of Stanford. Stanford’s Sally Watson took medalist honors at 220, bouncing back from a first-round 79.
The host Cougars placed fourth at 911.
Gonzaga’s Victoria Fallgren tied for 12th at 227.
Gonzaga’s Peter Gullickson (Lewis and Clark) tied for 33rd place at 11-over 227 at the Saint Mary’s Invitational at Seaside, Calif.
The Zags (937) finished last in the 15-team field that was topped by Oregon.
Whitworth senior outside hitter Kaimi Rocha was named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.
Rocha led the Pirates to a 3-0 week by averaging 3.8 kills and 2.5 digs per set.
Idaho sophomore Hannah Kiser was named Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after setting the school record for 6,000 meters (20 minutes, 58.43 seconds) as the top collegiate finisher at last Saturday’s Sundodger Invitational in Seattle.
• Whitworth junior Trevor Berrian was named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Berrian was the top finisher (18th) for the Pirates men at the Sundodger.
