Religion Notebook: Building dedication Saturday

Christ’s Church of Mt. Spokane, 5601 E. Peone Road, will dedicate its new building Saturday at 4 p.m.

The event will kick off with a community barbecue, which will be followed by a special service at 6 p.m.

Pet blessing

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., will present a Blessing of the Pets service Sunday at 2 p.m.

Speaker

The Spokane College Women’s Association will present speaker Shahram Hadian of the Truth in Love Project Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Red Lion River Inn, 700 N. Division St.

Hadian will speak on the topic “The True Goal of Radical Islam in America.”

The event includes lunch, and the price of admission is $16.50. Reservations are required by Sunday.

Retreat center events

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present two programs this week to help grieving families and those in the ministry face the loss of someone they love because of suicide.

The first event will be “Beauty from Ashes: Transforming Loss,” a suicide bereavement retreat Friday through Sunday. The event will be led by Anne Cronin Tyson and C. Karen Covey Moore and will focus on using prayer, reflection, journaling and sharing to help participants remember their loved ones.

The cost to attend this weekend retreat is $185 per person, $280 per couple or $100 for commuters.

The second event will be held Wednesday, when Tyson and Moore will present “Suicide Bereavement: What Do I Say?” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event is aimed at pastors, ministers, counselors, youth leaders, spiritual directors, teachers and others who minister to families during times of loss.

Admission is $35 and includes lunch.

Concerts

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will present a World Fusion Music Concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the temple’s gymnasium.

The concert will feature Moksha, world fusion jazz, and Spokane Taiko, a Japanese drumming group.

The cost to attend is $8 and the proceeds will benefit the temple.

• Southern gospel group FourGiven will perform at the First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., Sunday at 6 p.m.

The concert is free.

Fun Friday

Northwood Presbyterian Church, 6721 N. Monroe St., will present Fun Friday this week at 6 p.m.

The evening will begin with a potluck dinner and a game of Bunco will follow. There will also be a food drive to benefit the Westminster Food Bank.
