In brief: EWU Oktoberfest to benefit libraries

CHENEY – Eastern Washington University Libraries will hold “Oktoberfest” on Oct. 8, from 5 to 10:30 a.m. in the JFK Library.

This year’s theme is “Casino Royale” and it will include a buffet dinner provided by Victor’s, cupcakes by Marsells Cakes & Desserts, and wine and beer tasting courtesy of Latah Creek Winery, Walla Walla Vintners, Northern Lights Brewing Company and Golden Hills Brewery. Tickets are $35 per person or $175 for a reserved table of six. Student tickets are $15. All proceeds benefit the EWU Libraries’ Collection Endowment Fund for the purchase of books and journals.

Energy efficiency focus of barbecue

WEST CENTRAL – Residents in west Spokane are invited to a free community barbecue today to learn about Sustainable- Works, a Spokane based nonprofit that is offering reduced-cost home energy audits and retrofits. The event will be held at the Cannon Park picnic shelter, 2000 W. Spofford Ave., from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
